Baby food ( Rasam rice) and how to reduce spice level

Rasam rice with sweet potato baby food:

Today one of my friend was asking me what i feed my 11 month old for lunch. She was asking me whether my daughter is tolerating the spice level what we eat.

My answer:

I added rice, sweet potato, a tblsp of cooked toor dal, add Rasam and half a spoon of ghee.
Ghee and sweet potato reduce the spice level of Rasam.

Same way if  you want to give sambar rice you can add potatoes , carrots any sweet veges to it make it less spicy. My mom told me to add little rasam to it but i add little hot water to dilute sambar.
slowly we can introduce spicy food by this method.

Simple baby food recipe

Vegetable soup recipe:

This soup can be mixed with rice for babies and toddlers , puree it with rice to a desire consistency for babies.
For breakfast i give this soup with idli for my 8 month old.

Ingredients:

Cloves 2
cinnamon 1 small piece
bay leaves 1
saunf 1tsp
Onion 1 small
Tomato 1 small
ginger garlic paste 1tsp
pepper powder 1/2 tsp
coriander powder 2tsp
vegetables 1 cup(carrots , peas, brocolli, potato..)
cilantro 2 tbsp
oil 1tbsp
salt

Take a pressure cooker add oil
Add cloves, bay leaves, Saunf and cinnamon saute
Then add onion saute for two minutes then add ginger garlic paste and saute till raw smell leaves
Add tomato saute till mushy
Add salt ,pepper powder, coriander powder saute for a minute and then add vegetables , add half a cup water then pressure cook for a whistles
After the pressure subsided add cilantro and let it boil for few minutes till you get the desired consistency.

Note :
Adjust spice level for older kids.
For my older daughter 6 year old i add chicken instead of vegetables(chicken soup rice) she just loves it.

Baby constipation.

It's heart breaking when a baby is constipated. My both the kids had this problem. When i was in India i used suppositories for my older kid. But after coming to USA our doctor told us to give prunes  puree or prunes juice. It worked out like magic. I used Gerber puree . But now for my younger daughter I prepare most of her food at home. I feel it's better than store bought puree and more over tastes better. With just three to four spoons of prune puree she was feeling mush better .To regulate the bowl movement you can give pear puree. If you feel apple sauce is constipating start adding plums to apple sauce its a great alternative to dried prunes, babies will like fresh plums better than prunes puree. you can include prunes in oatmeal for toddlers just by chopping the prunes to bite size.

Dried prune puree recipe:

Dried prunes 10
Dried grapes 10

Take a pan boil 1 cup of water add prunes and grapes to it simmer it for 15 to 20 minutes. Cool it and grind it to thin consistency either by adding water, breast milk or formula. You can store it in baby containers or freeze it in an ice cube tray like this. you can pop out ,thaw it in a warm water or microwave it to feed the baby .

Note- I used dried grapes for sweetness and it's also rich in dietary fiber and antioxidant
